The incident took place at Khawadya Hill in the Tisgaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on August 21, 2026. According to reports, 19-year-old Kunal Chandgude died after falling into a gorge. His father, Murlidhar, also fell while reportedly trying to save him. His mother, Sangeeta, later fell into the gorge as well. All three died in the incident.
What Happened at the Cliff?
According to reports, Kunal had purchased an iPhone on EMI and was facing difficulty paying an instalment. An argument reportedly took place between Kunal and his father over the payment.
Kunal subsequently went to Khawadya Hill. His family members reportedly spent several hours trying to convince him to return.
During the attempt to bring him back from the edge of the cliff, his father reportedly tried to intervene. Both fell into the gorge.
His mother also reportedly went towards the gorge while attempting to respond to the situation and subsequently fell.
Teen Had Attempted Suicide From the Same Location Last Year
A disturbing detail that has emerged during the police investigation is that Kunal had reportedly attempted suicide from the same cliff in 2025.
According to reports, police had managed to persuade him to move away from the edge during that earlier incident, and he survived.
The revelation has prompted investigators to examine whether the latest incident was connected to deeper personal or family difficulties rather than being caused solely by the iPhone EMI dispute.
Police Investigating Other Possible Factors
Reports suggest that the family had experienced emotional and personal difficulties over several years. Kunal’s elder brother had reportedly died after an illness around six years ago, and there were also reports of tensions within the family.
