Maharashtra remains on high alert as heavy monsoon rainfall is expected to continue until July 8, according to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The warning follows forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has predicted intense rainfall across several parts of the state over the next two days.
The state government has directed all district administrations to remain fully prepared for any emergency situations. Disaster response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), have been deployed in vulnerable areas to respond quickly to incidents such as flooding, landslides, and waterlogging.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Normal Life
Several districts, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Nashik, and the Konkan region, have been experiencing continuous rainfall. The downpour has led to waterlogged roads, traffic congestion, delays in train services, and disruptions to flight operations.
Authorities have also reported landslides in hilly regions and rising water levels in rivers and reservoirs. Residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have been advised to stay alert and follow evacuation instructions if necessary.
Government Issues Safety Advisory
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with local authorities during the period of heavy rainfall. The administration has instructed emergency teams to remain on standby and ensure rapid response in affected districts.
The government has also appealed to residents to:
- Stay indoors during periods of intense rainfall.
- Avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges, and rivers.
- Follow official weather updates and emergency advisories.
- Contact local authorities immediately in case of emergencies.
IMD Forecast
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue across several regions of Maharashtra until July 8. Some areas may experience extremely heavy showers accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
Meteorologists have warned that localized flooding and landslides remain possible, particularly in the Western Ghats and Konkan belt.
Administration on Full Alert
District collectors, municipal corporations, police departments, and disaster management agencies have been instructed to remain on high alert. Rescue equipment, relief materials, and emergency response teams have been positioned at strategic locations to minimize the impact of the ongoing monsoon.
